Failed pipe

Post by Leus »

Ugh. Get a really bad piece of briar, check. Start working in a bad mood, check. Overdrill so your stem now is basically wide open, check. Never deciding if this was going to be a standard billiard or add a little flare to it, check. Keep sanding in dispair, check. Oversand so now you can actually see the bottom of the tenon on the top of the shank, check.

At least I got myself a new, if failed, pipe.

Well, at least you did it all wrong on this one, so the next one should be perfect, right?

I learned the hard way not to make pipes if I wasn't in the mood, and not to have more than 1 at a time in production. Things get bad real fast. LOL.

I like this one, overall. The stem looks a bit thick right at the button, but I kind of like the overall shape and the lines of the bowl are really nice.

If you're not in the mood, do something else.

I wasn't in the mood to make knives today, so I went and started a clubhouse for the kids - attached to their swingset that I made the last time I wasn't in the mood. :)

I think it's a very handsome failed pipe!

Kurt, I want to see pics of the clubhouse. I've got 2 little boys just itching for a swingset and a clubhouse.

You can always smoke it yourself. I love the finish.

Well, at least now I know. Yes, the stem is kind of thick, since I drilled almost all the way using a 4mm drill (!). On the other hand, this one smoke like a champ, I put a load of tobacco on it and an hour or so later it was still going, until I got a mouthful of ash. All the tobacco burns nice and even, effortlessly.

Thank you all for your kind comments.
