Has anyone used the wood dye to tint shellac to give a rusticated pipe a lighter coloed finish ? It has been something I have been pondering for a few days now and if so is there any good base lines for dye to shellac ratio to start from. And will you need more than one coat ( first coat dye shellac mix and top coat straight shellac )

thanks
Tony

Yes, it works quite well, though I have only used it on other projects than pipes.

:whisper: If you need any dye, I have a bunch of dye for sale in the for sale section, 40 colors, free samples

You shouldn't need the second shellac coat, since the shellac is going to encapsulate the dye and seal the color in all at the same time. I will try this method in the near future to see if it works for me, too. Good idea!
