Rate my Egg

I'm making this bent egg and I'm pleased with the general shape of the bowl as it is, but the tobacco chamber isn't "centered" on the top. I'm not sure if this really bothers me or not. What do you fellas think? Should I keep working the top edge of the bowl so it is more even around the edge of the tobacco chaber or leave it like it is?

I actually like it 'as is'. The angle of the bowl and the angle of the chamber kind of 'forgive' the slightly thicker top edge.....

Agree it's fine. That shape is gonna see some heat on the "back" side of the bowl, so you want to leave some meat there. If you want to "fake it" you can round over the outside corner just a hair more and no one will notice.

Overall the rim looks fine, but you could tweak it without trouble to make it more even.

One thing I would do, however, is to give the bowl a more "buxom" appearance at the back where it intersects the shank. I think Todd refers to that area as the "cheeks". You want to continue the decreasing radius curve on the back of the bowl and try not to let the bowl blend into the shank too much. Definitely don't let it remain somewhat straight there, as it appears now.

You may also find that the shape is much more pleasing if the front bottom of the bowl is reshaped as well - but wait in that until you've got the back of the bowl in process and check it against each other.

I agree. More definition at the bowl shank junction.

I probably oughta make the shank a bit more round too. And perhaps go a few grades finer with the sanding. And make a stem.

Nah, I think it looks nice as it is; a nosewarmer.

Yeah, some stain/finish might help too. Oh, and after all of that, it really needs some tobacco in it. Lit, of course.

Seriously, good looking pipe. Nice work!
