Templates

I'm tooling along, producing "traditional" shapes, and so far I have paper templates for a few shapes that have come out nicely. For those shapes that I'd like to replicate, I want a more durable template. I'd really like to find some fairly heavy, transparent plastic like Scott Thile uses. It looks thicker than transparency film, but not so thick that it can't be cut with scissors. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Fred,

If I were you, I'd email Scott and ask him what he uses.

Well that just makes too damn much sense Rad. I'll see what he says.

I use a product called Dura-Lar for making stencils. It comes in a variety of thicknesses and can be easily cut with an x-acto knife or scissors, but holds up really well.

Scott was kind enough to reply to my inquiry the other day. He uses some mylar material he picked up from Office Depot. Unfortunatly I couldn't find anything like it at my local Office Depot or OfficeMax. The clerks were no help.

I'll keep looking.

Seriously, this stuff is like heavier Mylar. I use it because the tiniest details can be cut in it and it always lays flat and is very difficult to tear, but easy to cut. Not terribly expensive either, for a 9X12 pad.....

That looks like what I'm after. I'll hit the local art supply stores.
