Old Calabash pipe

I got an old Porcelain pipe from Holland that has a threaded stem in it. The insert in the strummel is gone. Should I make a new threaded insert or use cork? If I do make a new insert what would be the best?

Thanks,
Doug

Is the threaded portion integral to the stem or is it metal or nylon or delrin, etc? If possible post a pic or two. It's possible that it had a similar tenon arrangement like a meerschaum pipe.

The threads are aluminum probably a 6MM. It is cast into the stem. I haven't seen an arrangement like this one before. I figured I would turn a new delron piece and thread it to fit the metric threads. Does that sound ok?

That's what I was thinking. Then the delrin would be a push fit into the porcelain shank.

Good sounds like I'm on the right track then. This old pipe is really cool too. It has a windmill scene on the front with 2 windmills. Great colors on it. I post a picture soon of it.
