Finally have my lathe set up and running; and today decided to break her in and make my first stem. Turned this from 3/4" ABS rod. I added a Corian insert and an ABS cap. I need to work on the bending, final sanding, and buffing; but I'll get to that when the pipe is shaped. What do you think?

Darn nice for a first try! Makes my first swing at a hand cut stem look silly. Great job!

Thanks, Nick. It was almost scary at first, but in no time the chips were flying and I was having a blast. After a little practice; hopefully I can get good at it!

Judging from that stem, you're already good. I hope you keep getting better!

that looks real nice. i ordered some ABS for something relatively cheap to experiment with. hopefully i can get one looking like yours someday.

i look forward to seeing how that pipe ends up.

and by the way, that's a burly looking lathe you have there.
