Polishing of sterling silver band

Hi all,

I would like to try putting sterling silver band on this next pipe that I'm making.
I was wondering, if I put band on the pipe during the sanding process, and if I sand silver band along with the shank and stem so they fit perfectla with one another, can I polish it later? And if so, how do I polish it, just like the rest of the pipe or with some other polishing paste?

It'll polish fine on a buffing wheel, but it will turn your buff black.
