Halloween pipe

Post by TreverT »

I don't know if anyone will be interested in this sort of thing, but I've just posted a series of articles and pics to my pipe blog covering the making of a Halloween pipe for a request, from start to finish. The top article is from tonight, just after completion - scroll down the page till you see the post "Halloween in January" to get back to part one:

Trever... first, The Crawler is excellent! I'd be afraid to smoke it; it might climb down my throat and punch out my chest :D

Second, earlier on that page you highlighted a few rotary tool bits. Where might one get their hands on these? I have the problems with drums you mentioned and have been looking for alternatives for a while. Thanks!!

They look like structured tooth carbide cutters. Dremel sells a line:

You can also get them at Woodcraft under a different brand name - kutzall I think. There's also Extreme brand, which are close to the same color as the ones Trever posted. They're extremely useful.

Micro-Mark! They are carbide cutters, and I love them to death. I don't have a link as they were xmas gifts, but I'm sure you can recognize them from the pics. They are truly excellent - HEAVY and fast stock removal without loading up or constantly having to be changed out. They're great for situations where you need to take out a lot of stock in a controlled area that normal wheels and discs can't handle.

The only Dremel cutters that require you to wear goggles for eye protection from the flying chips!

Trever - is that a metallic finish or a photographic illusion due to the tone? If it's a metallic finish, I gotta ask... how?

Photographic illusion. The pipe was stained varying degrees of opaque black.

I was wondering the same thing. The pics make it look as if it has a hematite finish.
