I don't know if anyone will be interested in this sort of thing, but I've just posted a series of articles and pics to my pipe blog covering the making of a Halloween pipe for a request, from start to finish. The top article is from tonight, just after completion - scroll down the page till you see the post "Halloween in January" to get back to part one:

Trever... first, The Crawler is excellent! I'd be afraid to smoke it; it might climb down my throat and punch out my chest
Second, earlier on that page you highlighted a few rotary tool bits. Where might one get their hands on these? I have the problems with drums you mentioned and have been looking for alternatives for a while. Thanks!!

They look like structured tooth carbide cutters. Dremel sells a line:

You can also get them at Woodcraft under a different brand name - kutzall I think. There's also Extreme brand, which are close to the same color as the ones Trever posted. They're extremely useful.

Micro-Mark! They are carbide cutters, and I love them to death. I don't have a link as they were xmas gifts, but I'm sure you can recognize them from the pics. They are truly excellent - HEAVY and fast stock removal without loading up or constantly having to be changed out. They're great for situations where you need to take out a lot of stock in a controlled area that normal wheels and discs can't handle.hazmat wrote: Second, earlier on that page you highlighted a few rotary tool bits. The only Dremel cutters that require you to wear goggles for eye protection from the flying chips!

Photographic illusion. The pipe was stained varying degrees of opaque black.kbadkar wrote:Trever - is that a metallic finish or a photographic illusion due to the tone? If it's a metallic finish, I gotta ask... how?

I was wondering the same thing. The pics make it look as if it has a hematite finish.TreverT wrote:Photographic illusion.
