Long Term Briar Storage???

Post by bvartist »

Hi Guys, Due to moving and family concerns, I have to put my pipemaking on hold for some time. I want to keep my briar and supplies in hopes of returning to pipemaking in the future. Right now I keep my briar in the house, but I won't have room for it soon. Will briar stored in an unheated garage suffer any ill effects from long term storage? I'm more worried about mold possibly tainting the blocks than anything else. Any suggestions???

Briar shouldn't suffer any ill effects from stored in a garage. I've got some of mine stored in an unheated shed out behind the house stored in sturdy cardboard boxes. They don't suffer at all.

You will want to bring them into the house for a few months to acclimate and equalize before working them again, but they won't suffer any long term problems from storing in the garage. Just don't store then next to open containers of solvent, or anything else with a foul odor. They might pick up those smells.
