Post by kkendall »

As always... comments & observations where improvements can be made are welcome.... Thx

Long Pot (Pipe No "18") - bowl looks kinda like a civil war mortar canon

And my first attempt at a Volcano (Pipe No "17")

Nice work. I particularly like the volcano. I think it's my favorite of your pipes thus far.

And how did you do that turquoise band, by the way? I'm scratching my head, here, trying to figure out how you did that.

I really like them both. Very nice finish (I'm assuming carnauba).

One question though: why did you bend the stem on the pot? It looks like a straight pipe, which I wouldn't have bent the stem. Just curious about your thinking on that. Maybe I would try it if I understood...

Keep it up, great work!

It looks like Inlace with crushed turquoise:

Pretty neat stuff. I've used inlace with copper colored metal dust on a candy dish recently.

Wow, that is cool stuff. I think I'm going to have to pick some up and try it.

Thank you. That's correct, just a carnuba wax finish.

The pipe itself sort of deviates from classical with the little plateaux and the turquoise inlay (inlace), so I decided to depart from tradition on the other end of the pipe as well....besides, I like the slight bend on a short saddle stem. If it was a longer stem on a straight pipe, I don't think it would work.

I have seen this bend on other long shank/short stem pipes. In my opinion, I think it looks fine.

Frank.
