Hi guys,

Mark Tinsky asked me to post here that Tim's site had a virus/worm that would load onto your computer when you entered the site. I actually had it happen to me this morning after I read here that Tim had some less expensive Ebonite rod. Luckily, my Norton shit just deleted the bad stuff, and I'm clean.

Tim doesn't know where it came from, but he's shut down his site until it gets cleaned out.

I'll let you know when Tim's site is back up.

Geez, thanks for the warning. Windows wigged out on me last night when when I doubled checked his web address before posting. I have expired anti-virus software on it, so I better check my home computer when I get off "work".

Some bastard must have figured out how to hijack his site.
Why do these nerdy little snot-pickers get joy from screwing with people's computers & sites? There's no gain to be had by anyone from doing it.

Frank,

There is a financial gain if you get enough computers infected with software that allows you to use them, for example, to send spam. Those are known as Zombie computers.

It's even likely that the site didn't even get hijacked. The server his site runs on is a Windows 2003 server running IIS - basically extremely succeptible to viruses and worms itself. A worm probably found it's way into the system via an IIS vulnerability and planted itself there waiting for unsuspecting Windows users to hit the site.

We Apple users have no fear of such things.

BA! Apples are the DEVIL! Great commercials though. I love the dorky guy and the cool guy. But I definately identify with PC more than Apple.

OS X actually uses a XNU kernel, derived from and based on Mach. The wrapper is BSD-ish, and a lot of the systems admin stuff is in NetInfo. The GUI is called "Aqua", and isn't based on X11 or anything even remotely like it. Basically, it's a modern version of OpenStep. Good, good stuff.
