Another Pair of Volcanoes

Post by jeff »

Hey all,

I just finished up another pair of volcanoes this week. I have one more in this batch of three to complete and then off to do some other shapes for a while. The first one has some pretty stellar straight grain on the bowl and shank alike. The bottom blasted like it was made of styrofoam. It just disintegrated and really came out beautifully.

The second one has one of the most beautifully figured blasts I've ever made. The rings are perfect and completely circle the cone of this volcano. It's also got a contrast stain I'm calling "Lava Contrast" for obvious reasons. :)

That's it from my shop this time. I'll try and post photos of the final volcano next week when it's finished.

Take care all,

Jeff

Jeff, How do you and Todd get those wonderful oval areas with no blasting? I've been stuck with square/rectangular areas because I use electrical tape to mask.

Wow, both of these are stunning, Jeff. That is a fantastic blast, and a beautiful stain to compliment it too! Wonderful work on both! Your volcanos, as well as the rest of your work is a tremendiuos inspiration.

Thanks guys.

Kurt, I use electrical tape too. I just cut it into whatever shape I want the stamping surface to have.

Interesting. Do you have a die that you use to cut it, or do you just cut freehand?

Sometimes I use a pattern like here,

Other times I go freehand like here,

It just depends on the particular piece. Sometimes I integrate the stamping surface into the design elements, other times I do not.

Hi Jeff,
These are two real beauties. Very nice balance to the shapes and stems together.
And speaking of stems, your stems have gotten really extra fine.
My hat's off to you buddy :)

Thanks a lot Steve. I appreciate it!

I have finally finished the "Blowcano." It's number three in this series for a very good customer of mine and a volcano aficionado.

Wow! The Blowcano is beautiful, Jeff! This is simply an amazing series of pipes.

Your work is stunning. It is very encouraging and inspirational to see these beautiful pipes that are so creative and original. I hope one day I'll be able to do some original work that flows like these do.

Bravo!
