Post by BD »

What do you guys use - dry or wet sanding or a combination and to what grit do you go?

Thanks in advance for your help!

For Stummels, I use dry sanding and go up to 1200.

For Stems, same, but I usually only go to 800.

I do the opposite :D

I find that there is little change from 600 or 800 till 1200 or 1500 on the wood... while there is a significant difference, IMO, in the stem.

800 grit dry on stems and stummels.

I wet sand acrylic stems with 800.

I dry sand the stummel and stem starting with 220 up to 400, then I wipe everything down with a wet cotton ball and sand again with 400. Then I wipe everything down again with a wet cotton ball and sand with 600, then repeat but with a light sanding with 1500. Then I finish up with a very very light dry sanding with 0000 steel wool.
