Epoxy Question.. hope someone can help

Post by hazmat »

In my recent travels around the internet and through this forum, I seem to recall somewhere a conversation being had regarding using dollups of epoxy in the shaping process for the stummel.

If memory serves me, it was something with the laying out of the shape and using the dollups of epoxy at intersecting lines on the stummel(?????). I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly or not, but if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

This is sometimes done if you drill after you shape. With that method you draw out the lines on the shaped stummel to determine your angles for drilling, and drill by hand by pressing the shaped stummel onto the spinning bit in a lathe. Often, the tailstock is used to press the stummel into the spinning bit. To prevent a dent in the stummel from the tailstock, an epoxy dot is placed on the spot where the tailstock will contact the stummel.
