Where do you buy materials?

Post by josh_ford »

I'm looking to start to cut my own stems and to use delrin. I was wondering where everybody buys there stem material (vulcanite, Lucite, etc.), the delrin, and even briar. I see so many different places to buy different supplies and I was wondering what all of your experiences have taught you about where to buy these materials. Where do you buy it, how much does it cost, etc? I don't want to blow money when I can get it cheaper.

I'll second Jeff's suggestion. You can also try:
http://www.pimopipecraft.com
for some stuff. Ginny is great, and really aims to please.

For delrin, I get it all from:
http://www.onlinemetals.com

Acrylic rod stock, if you go that route, can be had from:
http://www.delviesplastics.com

I *really* need to get a materials sources section setup here.

Those are the best places unless your're willing to commit to rather large orders and spend several hundreds of dollars at a time for a single product.

Thank you so much. Those are pretty much the sources I had. For cumberland and vulcanite do you guys go to pipmakers.org? Where does everyone get their briar?

Pros typically go direct to the cutter for briar, and direct to the vulcanizer for vulcanite and cumberland. There are minimum orders, and some of them are rather rich....

Tim West also sells Delrin, either in rods or pre cut and pre drilled pieces. http://www.jhlowe.com/ Also he's got some pretty nice Bamboo at the moment.
