I wonder if it would make sense to try a hybrid approach. Say drilling the draft hole first, shaping the pipe and then drilling. What do you all think?

Doesn't really seem like it provides any benifit and defeats the purpose of each method :). If you know were the draft hole is going, you pretty much know where the tobacco chamber will end up.
