New Workshop Setup *Warning, Many photos*

Post by jeff »

Hey gents,

I was asked to post a photo of my sanding/buffing station recently. While everything is not set up at present, the basic setup is evident. So, I became ambitious after tidying up the shop and thought I'd post photos of the whole setup, FWIW to you all. I've yet to get a central dust collection system and the buffing wheels (which will be mounted on the opposite side of the sanding motors where the drill press and the bandsaw are sitting in the photos) have yet to be mounted and wired. Otherwise, it is pretty much what I will be sticking with sans sandblasting.

Cheers,

Jeff

General Setup w/ Lathes and Sanding/Finishing Bench

Sanding Station (Eventually 4 buffing wheels will be mounted on the other side with the double-madrel setup discussed in another thread.)

"New" Old 12" Craftsman Bandsaw (and for $25, a steal!)

Sanding/Finishing Bench

Lathe #1 (the one that was knocked off its skid when shipped)--Eventually will be setup exclusively for turning.

Lathe #2, the workhorse, for drilling, stemwork, etc.

New Shelving w/ briar and rod stock storage (a hell of a lot better than the cardboard boxes on the floor used in the past!)

I have no idea what you are talking about.

BTW, you must be referring to the white Jet, the grey one was totally legit. And, it was a better deal, I might add. :)

As to the shop's cleanliness, well, I did mention that I had just cleaned up. It fluctuates between this and pretty stinking messy.

Best,

Jeff

I use 8" 36 grit fiber backed disks for roughing the shape. Then I proceed to a 6" 220 grit disk. I'll be adding 400 grit to the mix this week to make my final sanding go more quickly.

and one more question about the set up- there is no backing plate or anything is there. it is just the disc mounted on the motor.

There is a backing plate. I use a plastic one because I like a little flex in the disk. I'll also be using a rigid disk in the near future in addition to this one.
