First Briar Pipe - Abyssal Relic

Post by gngrmn7 »

After 4 years of smoking, I finally decided to try my hand at creating a pipe.
I bought a predrilled pipe kit off Amazon and set to work on the vision I had in my mind.
The shape was extremely unorthodox, and I followed almost no guidelines for typical dimensions.
It was originally supposed to be shaped a bit different, but the material I had to work with and the angle of the holes themselves limited that.
I wanted it to be a bit more spherical and exaggerated on the curvature of each spiral (like a real ammonite).

The process was completed slowly, researching as much as I could before each big step.
It was done entirely by hand using a Dremel and other hand tools.
All the symmetry was eye-balled and penciled-in.
The nicks and scrapes give away my skill level.
I am also not particularly happy with the shape of the shank; that got away from me a bit.

It was finished with some simple leather dye and carnauba wax, and I smoke it to this day.
