Pipe #20 - Saddle Bit Billiard

Post by brownleafbeardsman »

Hello, everyone.
I wanted to show you guys a pipe that I finished off today. I'm still on that perfect billiard hunt!
Really trying to dial in on the proper bowl shape.
From the last couple I've done, and the last few critiques. I know mine can be a bit square or "chinnish".
I'm going to keep trying.
This one is a saddle bit billiard.

Thanks in advance for any critiques or advice! :D

I'd call this close to an apple rather than a billiard. The ratio of maximum width versus bowl height is off.

Here's some quick observations:
-the back side of the bowl needs "tucked" in a bit more.
-once you handle the previous step, the cheeks will be a bit heavy and need adjusting
-bottom line isn't straight
-your saddle stem needs work. Most obvious problem is the dip behind the saddle. You want consistent curves on top and bottom of the saddle.
-gleam lines are pretty wavy

Thank you for your input, Ocelot. There was quite a bit of plateaux in a very weird spot along the rim so I did have to shave a good amount down, and I do not have a spade bit or spoon bit smaller than 3/4". Stuck between a rock and a hard place. :(
I see what you mean in regards to the back of the bowl.
I will keep working on shaping and working hard on saddle stems. This is only the 3rd one ive tried and it is a little more difficult in my opinion. Thanks again, friend!
