Purely a repair/resto subject---shouldn't be necessary when making new pipes---but the occasional repair guy drifts through here from time to time:

Shouldn't be necessary when making new pipes.....true.......but some of us new guys can mess up a shank-to-stem junction in all sorts of ways and this is a great way to remedy such mistakes.
