Rusticated billiard

Post by ReverendThom »

I started this many months ago and finally finished the rustication and stained it this week. I smoked it a couple times over the last few months so already have some chatter marks on the stem but see some bear claws on the stem now that it's polished. Any feedback is very welcome.

Will have to look at the finishing forum for tips on rustication. Hard to get into all those crannies.

Hey man,

Good job so far, a couple things.

1. Your shape is more of a pot than a billiard. You want a slightly long/taller bowl on a billiard:

2. Your stem is too long or stummel too short. You want the stem/stummel junction to be the centerpoint.

3. For your rustication, "Leave no surface unscarred". It can take a long time, but a fully gnarled surface looks infinitely better than a 90% gnarled surface. Eg:
