A little nosewarmer pot I am working on for practice with my tools. I am cutting my very first stem and I am already not happy. Critique as harshly as you will, but -please add advice to finish this little shop pipe.

The draft hole in the button looks a little large. I use 1/16”.
And cutting the sides of the button is not correct.

I didnt have a 1/16 and thought I could get away with 3/32. That combined with how badly I botched the shape says Im making a new practice stem for this pot. I'll post pics when I get it started, meanwhile any hints tips or tricks?

There is still a lot of material left on that pipe. Stummel and stem. Keep working on it. Are you basing it off of an existing pipe or just an idea in your head?

It's loosely based on a pot I saw elsewhere. I'm really happy with the stummel (I've continued it) but I almost remade the stem entirely. I decided to rework the entire button area, cutting it back a bit to do so. I'm still not happy with the stem, but rather than make a new one I kept it. This is a practice pipe and I'm keeping it for me anyhow.

I'll post more pictures when its closer to finished

Update: The pot is dead, long live the pot...
My 1 year old husky thought this made a nice chew toy... At least it wasn't one of my good pieces of briar, and only a practice piece...
