Regardless of how we got to this point in this thread, it's all fantastic info to have and all great points. Thanks for all of the input guys.
Re: billiard 6
When you cut a saddle stem, whether you cut it at 90 or round it in with a rat-tail file, that "top corner" is very, very sensitive to sanding/filing when you are working on the shank and stem, so it's easy to knock the last mm or so off just the corner.RickB wrote:Okay someone explain this barrel roundover thing to me because I've seen it pop up a couple times lately and don't know what you're talking about... which means I'm almost certainly doing it.

These are hand-made, one-off artisan arrows, not your dime-a-dozen store bought shit.

Re: billiard 6
I have found that the most important things that I can do to prevent roundover are 1) get the surface as smooth as possible with files, then 2) use as stiff a sanding backer that I have which still allows a little conformation to the surface, and 3) watch my technique so that each stroke is parallel to the surface and that I not “rock” the pad at the end of the stroke.

Yeah, all that, hand position, using small roll-ups of sandpaper, shaping mostly with hard tools (ie files rather than sanding) in those areas....
