Re: Started another billiard today
I like the curve on the shank-side of the bowl better than what I see on the front - bit of a beer-belly, and a bit flat in the middle.

Thanks SAS, I'll put it on a diet and see if I can skinny up the front side.
Not sure about the flat in the middle? Can you expand on that?

Re: Started another billiard today
A little flat bottom middle of shank instead of a slight taper back towards the stem I believe that's what he means

Hmm, it's a 2° taper from bowl to stem all the way around and checked with a straight edge. Hope SAS clarifies.pipeguy wrote:A little flat bottom middle of shank instead of a slight taper back towards the stem I believe that's what he means
Re: Started another billiard today (updated)
I believe Sas was referring to the front profile which is straight in the middle portion.

That's what I am hoping Doc, just wanting to be sure I understood what he was referring to. I'm sure I have corrected that now.DocAitch wrote:I believe Sas was referring to the front profile which is straight in the middle portion.

Re: Started another billiard today (updated)
I think less rounding towards the rim is more in line with a traditional billiard. With the rounding this drastic, it gives it a more egg-like appearance.

Yes, and it's corrected now.Doug535 wrote:That's what I am hoping Doc, just wanting to be sure I understood what he was referring to. I'm sure I have corrected that now.DocAitch wrote:I believe Sas was referring to the front profile which is straight in the middle portion.

This is one of about 40 things that makes a billiard hard. There's curves, and if you miss them, it's awful, and if you exaggerate them, it's not a billiard anymore. I like the new profile a lot better. It is maybe just a bit curved/tapered toward the top, that's what WT is concerned about. So, keep going, sand and finish, and do another and another is my advice.

I think the back of the bowl, close to the shank, could be taken in bit.

Thanks for clarifying Sas, I've started another. but had to cut the bowl a lil short due to a flaw. I'll post it up when I get a lil further along.
