This my other more successful bamboo efforts. Subject to the same critique-too long shank length, not a great polish on the spacers etc. This pipe also has two stems. (Actually 4, I am debating giving all 4 to the recipient).

The bamboo extension rotated a bit while being glued

Green stem, too short, not enough bend.

The first stem shown is the better of the two for sure although it may be a touch wide. I've found that 3/4" bit width is max for comfort. I made this mistake a lot early on. The second stem is a mess really. I wouldn't send it out without slimming it down a bunch. I honestly wouldn't think it worth the effort unless you just want the practice.

I like the first stem as well. When you say "slimming it down a lot" are you referring to the thickness/lumpy curve on the flare?
I agree that that could use some slimming.
My thought is that it can't hurt to have a second stem around, especially a green one with St.Paddy's day approaching :D

Everything about the second stem is a bit clunky. The gap between the end of the shank and the flare is too long. The profile thickness looks too thick and the button can use a lot of trimming. The lines coming off of the flare aren't symmetrical.

Thanks. I wasn't happy it, it was the first one I cut for that pipe. My main concern was that it was too short.
That's why I cut the black one.
I did just measure the width of the black one and it is about a 11/16" wide.
