I guess I better introduce myself too...

I'm the fuckin Sasquatch.

I guess for the new guys and those from the outside wide world I'll post a little info here. I think I started making pipes in 07 or 08. Thanks to the generous help of many on this board and a (very) few other places, within about 5 years I got to where I could make a half decent pipe. Pretty much hit that plateaux and stayed right there. I have studied much, thought much, practiced much. I think I know as much about wood and wood finishing as anyone here, and I think (incorrectly) I know more about briar than anybody here.

I make perfectly ordinary reasonably nice pipes. And it took me a lot of struggling to even be that bad. So when I criticize you, kick you, help you, cry with you... know that I have been there, and that largely, I still see myself as being there.

I didn't know crying with us was an option. Can we organize this as a group event in Chicago ? Maybe we can get some tent space Friday night.

They used to have a Pipemakers meeting at the Chicago show back in the day... All of the pipemakers would get together and cry about the state of things

I'm not sure what year they stopped doing this, but this photo is from 2002

I was at the Vegas show this year, and I assure you there were a lot of pipemakers hanging out together, and yes they were still crying about the state of things.
