This is my 11th pipe tell me what you think I could improve on thanks

For your 11th pipe, that looks really good!

There are a couple places I see where the stain looks uneven (top of the shank by the plateaux is the most prominent)

The shaping on the bowl isn't quite symmetrical around the middle and the cheeks.

Design-wise, the shank looks too big for the bowl. Thinning it out would make it look more elegant.

The brass protruding from the end of the shank looks odd. I would recommend using a dremel to bring it down to sit in the plateaux. The brass doesn't touch the tenon, does it?

I like the lines and flow of this shape. I also like how you used plateaux. The stem looks pretty good from what I can see. Nice work!

That's a very, very nice pipe. For being your 11th it's really a great job.
Jeremiah is right about most stuff, but he's picking nits (rightfully, that's what we're here for

).

I actually think that there's only two real issues with this pipe - the brass sleeve should be hidden and the mouthpiece should be a bit shorter and a bit more delicate (less material right after the saddle). If you fix these two things this is really a presentable pipe.

Bowl does not need to be symmetrical. Shank looks fine to the bowl.

As Jeremiah pointed out, the brass need Dremel attention. When you make it look like the platueau, that will be cool!

Alright thanks a lot for the advice. I was thinking about doing Dremel work to take the brass down but I remembered seeing a really nice pipe somewhere that had a partial plateau on it like this one that just left to brass to follow the shaped portion of the shank instead of the plateau, for some reason i felt like if I just dropped it down it wouldn't look right. If you look in the fifth picture you can see that the brass doesn't touch the stem, the next time I do a partial plateau like this I'll cut the brass to the plateau and see how that looks.

also, is purely decorative or is there some functional reason for doing this?

I made one from a $2 harbor freight screwdriver. Works fine. Still figurin it out before I use it on a finished pipe.

Military mount bit.

Ah, never mind. I realize now that the hole saw for the brass tubing is the thing that's easy to make yourself. Although it is true that you can make a military mount bit by grinding a relief on the edges of a good sized screw driver.

I think the pipe I've seen that was similar, was a Nanna, but might be wrong. In that one the brass did extrude like that.
The shank is not too big for the bowl, in my eyes.

A late-to-the-party note:

The "untreated" front edge of the button should be dealt with somehow. Rolled/radiused a little, faceted, whatever you prefer, however you want to do it. Just don't leave it square and sharp. Remember when you were a kid, and a sharp edge would occasionally develop on a piece of hard candy you'd had in your mouth awhile? It's like that.
