First Rustications

Post by BDP »

All,

Here's my first attempts at the "nailgun" rustication...

Should I sell them as a pair?

Hey Brad,
Nice looking pipes. Can you post a shot of a close up of the rustication?
And what exactly is nailgun rustication?

Close-up

Post by BDP »

Magruder,

I'll try to get a close-up, but I really need to upgrade the POJ I am currently using.

The "nailgun" is that brute of an instrument that we've all put together from concrete nails and pipe fittings.

BDP,

Sweet couple of pipes!!

Too bad that you can't get a closer pic of the rustication. I am guessing that your camera does not have a "Macro" setting on it? If it does then try using that to get in really close.

Another trick that sometimes works is to take the larges picture that you can with your camera in as mush detail as possible then open the pic in a picture editing program. You can crop out a close up of the rustication.

As to your question of selling them as a pair, I would tend to answer "no" to that question because of the stems being different. You did some extra work on the stem of thelarge pipe (very nice work by the way) that makes them "not a pair". At least that is my view.

Nice looking pipes buddy! I love the colors. Nice fit on the stems, I can't find a damn thing to critique!

I think selling them as a pair would be neat. Make a little presentation box for the pair. Or get a large clamshell glasses case and put a foam lining in it with cut outs to fit the pipes. Cover the foam with velvet or somthing.

HI Brad,
I tend to agree with Brendhain that the shanks should match to make a pair.
That is not to take away from them, as they are both nice looking.
And light, I would guess? :thumb:

I would guess the little one to be around 1 OZ. The bigger just under 2 OZ. I guess I need to get a digital scale- anyone have suggestions??

Brad,

I totally agree with Jeff, that is a great looking pipe.

Very nice job all around, not just on the rustication!

Bryan & Jeff,

Thanks you guys. Now all I have to do is sell it!! I can't believe how rewarding it is to see a pipe you really like go out the door to someone who is really excited about getting it. I LOVE IT!!

Is it quieter around this board since Chicago, or is it just me??

Pacific Northwest Regards,

Brad,

You are welcome, but it is really my pleasure to see such a great looking pipe.

As for the quietness around here, I have noticed that also.

Yes, everything calmed down a lot. Living under the roof sitting around almost naked  at 32° C at 8 pm might be my reason for not being too active…

rustication is a very difficult part of pipmaking and it seems you have found a way to ignore that, as it didnt existed even. Selling thoose is no problem i can not understand why you aren´t keeping one of them, selling pairs is ok but selling pair one by one is better for the future. If you got a pipe that you know has a brother somewere in the world and the pipe is a favorit you´ll give your right arm for the missing one.

Ooops. I didn't realize there was some kind of dresscode for the forum.

What I meant to say was: It’s hot. This causes a) beeing seriously underdressed and b) the urge not to move or even think too much. If there should have been any misunderstanding as to what fact caused what outcome, be assured that a) was pure survival strategy… Hony soit qui mal y pense, since it's too hot for even thinking about doing something out of the wide field of things to do with little or no clothes on… 8)

I just read in another thread about even more drastic climate conditions. But me being a 10 to 15 kilo overweight reddish blond, maybe a descendant from some northern european viking, more than 25° C is getting seriously on my nerves, and everything over 30 is way above line…
Just forgot that the Americas combine some climate areas, where people would enjoy something as low as 32.

Temperature dropped last night, so I'm properly dressed now. Still not wearing suit and tie, though…
