Suggestions For Next Pipe Style

Post by WBill »

Usally I wouldn't have any problem on deciding on a style of pipe for a particular block of briar but I have this one block that is very nice. It has fairly straight grain all around, sides, front and back. What I really like is the nice birds eye on the top and bottom.

What style would be best suited so I could keep a large portion of the birds eye on the top and bottom. I'm thinking a dublin style poker with not much of an angle and have the top angled down.

The block is a little over two inches square and a little less than four inches long. I could have the grain running horizontal front and back with the birds eye on the side.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Bill

Vertical: Wide flair Dublin, your Dublin/Poker idea, Volcano

Horizontal: Blowfish (tough shape to do), Billiard, Paneled Billiard, Disc/Blowfish

Horizontal front to back birdseye: Shield, Elephants foot

Maybe a wide, squat bulldog/rhodesian.

What about turning the block on its end and making a chimney?
