Guilty as charged, Mr. Huber. I'm still unable to explain what came over me.

I am officially a lathe virgin no more. Just finished taking the thing on a test drive. I have all my fingers and the house is still standing, so I'm callin' it good. 8)

Decided to make one of the oddball things that I got it for in the first place as its maiden voyage: an otherwise standard stem with a deeply undercut (dished) face. No drama, I just stared a while at the pieces-parts and did what felt right, and got a perfect result straight away. Go figure. Getting the rod centered with a 4-jaw chuck was a pain, but that was expected. Kinda fun doin' things sideways.

(Fuck that thread-cutting insanity, though. NO amount of intuition would make a dent in that gear train shit. )

The main belt is getting a bit ratty & lumpy, so I ordered a length of that twist-lock stuff to replace it, and the idler pulley axle seemed rough, so will be replacing it with a length of extra-hard polished drill rod. Other than those things and a solid lamp or two, zee project is finished. Yay for the repair team! :D

I'll take some video tonight and see if I can't find a way to post it......did that come out kinda dirty, or is it just me? :help:

Let me rephrase: I'll take some video of GEORGE turning a tenon or something ON THE LATHE while I am at his shop tonight.

So. You're gonna film George turning his tenon later ?
I can't find a dirty joke in that anywhere.

I didn't get it either; what's dirty about her filming George using his tool tonight? I, for one, am looking forward to watching a video of him working on his rod stock.

Film it through a crack in the closet door, and breathe real slow and heavy the whole time.

I don't know what's funnier, the thought of George working on a lathe, or the thought of Alden creeping Scottie creeping George. All top quality stuff.

Congratulations on the lathe, George! I think you're going to love having that option in the arsenal!
