Only a teeny, stem-sized one, but authentic Old School 'Murrican Iron. (Atlas)

It'll let me do a few things (like dished stem faces and certain kinds of ornamentation) that require work-arounds with my DP setup.

Ought to be fun.

Congrats George. I picked an Atlas up yesterday too. Your's is in better shape than mine.

It was your tool board post that triggered this. I've wanted a mini-lathe for long time for certain kinds of fiddley & specialty stem work (like cutting the inside groove-ring for a Vernon fitment Dunhill http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/infos/dunhill1.html , or drilling more than 6" without shifting the stock.)

Anyway, when I saw your pics I cruised the Lost Creek site and there was exactly what I needed. The two guys the run the place are SUPER helpful and friendly, too. I can't recall the last time I've dealt with someone that easy to deal with and that focused on making their customers happy.

It's been a good month for airborne pigs, hasn't it? First Todd J. and I agreed about something, and now this.

Turns out the bench was included, but shipping it would have pushed the dimensional charges into a new bracket that made it cheaper not to send than to build one on this end.

I definitely lucked out there. Jason said it had only one owner---a recently deceased life-long clock repairman---and had been both lightly used and well maintained.

We repair people look out for each other even from the grave, apparently.

That's what I keep hearing, but am hoping that since I'll only be using it for one "task group" with soft materials (no thread cutting, metal work, or etc.) it won't be too painful.

Also, I called Chas before getting this thing, and he mentioned that a while back two dead-new, still-in-the-crate Super 7's came on the market. Did you get a shot at one? Also, what did they end up selling for (if you know)? Talk about tool geek heaven. Damn.

Ah yes. You bought the Atlas 6x18. I considered picking that one up. I fiddled with it a little. It's definitely tighter than the one I bought but it is in bad need of a lube. I think it sat for a bit and dried up before Lost Creek got it. No rust or anything though. It was in good shape. Should be a really nice machine in your hands. Did you tell Matt you're a pipe guy?

I saw one of those lathes sell, I think it went for market value of about £4000. A museum grade piece is no good to me, mine is heavily modified to suit the work I do. Paul (Larrysson) has what is essentially a museum grade lathe and it is a beauty but they need a good decade of use to run in properly, he prefers to use my lathe as it is smoother and quieter, that 31 years had bedded it in nicely lol.
