I have several pipes that show that the bit for the smoke hole was used at an angle that created a crescent to half moon trough in the mortise.
Is this indicative of drilling after shaping the stummel - or not necessarily? :dunno:
TIA

Re: Drilling Post Shaping
Not necessarily. It just means that the draft hole was drilled at a sharp angle and had to be pulled down against the back wall of the mortise. This way it enters the mortise more toward the center and less of a "groove" needs to be made for pipecleaner passage.magruder wrote:I have several pipes that show that the bit for the smoke hole was used at an angle that created a crescent to half moon trough in the mortise.
