Hello everyone, I currently have a south bend 13 and a taig lathe but I've been thinking about getting rid of the taig lathe. I saw this on Craigslist and think if I can get it cheaper it would de a good deal. Please let me know if I'm correct. Thanks

Depends what you want from that lathe, I don't see much worth having there except as a project.

Mighty expensive for all the work it will take to get it up and running.

Looks like it is all here, looks to even have a 4 jaw chuck on the bench. If it was in my area I would get buy it, not for pipemaking but to redo as a metal lathe. The 5C collet chuck on the spindle looks like it would clean up and so does the lathe. For a few dollars and a some work it could be a good lathe. It would tale a closer inspection to check the ways and the compound, motor etc.. But I have a thing for this old iron, most of my good stuff is more than 50 yeas old and I have rebuilt them.

They are not 5C collets, this would make it very difficult to get extra stock later on, always best to stick with a common type if possible. Personally I like ER40, but 5C have a wider range of shapes available.

Way to much rust on the bed. This can only be fixed with precision honing by specialist so it will cost a lot.

And I can't be sure if the tailstock will be aligned if a lot of material will be removed.
