What exactly is the originally engineered "function" of the Cavalier design?

A "well" at the bottom of the airway with a removable cap for cleaning. It's also a neat shape that isn't easily drilled any other way.

Does the drilling technically have to intersect at the bowl in order to be an official cavalier? I see from the one Micha posted a picture of that the drilling does not intersect at the bowl. Is it still technically a cavalier?

Do a search, the PITH trade was a Cavalier maybe 2 years ago. There is a lot of info there.

Look closely at the line where the light-colored wood spacer of the "tail" meets the body of the pipe.

My eye (thinks) it spies evidence---ever-so-slightly "rolled" edges---that the tail is removable. Meaning, if so, this pipe isn't just a cavalier stylistically, but functionally.

Pretty nifty, huh?

Jeremy Sandcastle over there is just jealous because I'm prettier than he is and people like me better. :fencing:

That's a new one. Congratulations on finding a nickname I haven't been called before. :notworthy:

I'm afraid being prettier and more likable than me is not an accomplishment at all, though...

That's a good first attempt, Scottie, but I think it might flow better if you used his first name "Jeremiah" but twisted his last name into "Sandcastle."

I hope that communicates what I'm getting at.

Overall, I'd say it's a great first attempt. I look forward to seeing your work develop.

Officially official word from the horse's mouth ---

The 2015 contest design/concept/shape is now officially the cavalier.

It is a Super Duper Ultra Extreme Mega Secret no longer.

That being the case, Mr. Tyler, if you wouldn't be averse to officially creating an official sticky in which to conduct further discussions and Q&A regarding the contest, the GKCPC would be most obliged. :D
