I'd blast it or go darker. The specks would bother me if I made this pipe. That and the grain is very mediocre.

You can see the specs in the updated pictures?

Looking harder, I see the spec that we were shown pre-stain. I agree that going darker if it's staying smooth would be the way to go.
Wayne's right that the grain is lack-luster at best. If you're gonna be selling it, blast it.

Ok. Back to blasting. I tried! At least the shank and stamp rings are finished.

FWIW, blasting will also help disguise the bottom line of the shank being a little higher than the bottom of the bowl.
However,
i personally think it looks nice, if your happy with it just call it done and move on to the next one.

I didnt get the taper right towards the stem. I think that gap under the shank would have gone away had I made the taper correct at the stem. It could also be corrected by blasting? I guess we have reached the point of subjective critique on this pipe. Pretty close to a 50/50 poll. blast/smooth.

Charl says leave it. I will bring it to Columbus for you guys to critique if you would do me the favor. It has some streaks on the shank from the thick spray shellac technique. I would like to explore a thinner cut, or maybe danish oil. It actually looks much better in person.
