I took nothing off the pipe in terms of longevity. It caked over and I'll think no more of it. I think most pipes are burned some inside, either because of over-puffing, or smoking in the wind, or whatever. Pipes are awfully tough. But giving them a start in life, a head-start in the protective cake department.... makes sense.

Would using a coating like this allow for the use of none traditional woods that typically burn easier.
