We're getting down to the wire now. A week and half left. Does anyone anticipate requiring a little extra time to finish? If you're finished, please post that your finished or pm me so I can update my spreadsheet. Good luck everyone!

Drilled and rough shaped. Should make some good progress this weekend. Still, I wouldn't turn down a little more time.

Great to see lots of good progress on pipes this year, but still, to maximize participation, I propose a 1 week extension as there are a few people who are right on the line and it would be a shame to lose a few for lack of being flexible. Anyone have any opposition to pushing it back just a bit?

Guys, regretfully I have to withdraw from PITH this year. New job/ career change. I'm buried. I hope to be back in the saddle next year. Again, sorry to withdraw late.

Well, I started with 5 and one looks pretty good at this point, 2 others will be smokable pipes. One other is completely trashed, and the other will go to a non smoker.
It has been quite a learning curve- that mortise kit from Vermont Freehand is pretty tricky.
Sanding and staining tomorrow.
Unless there is a disaster I will be ready.

The extra week would be really helpful thanks. Since taking George's recommendation on Gemtac for shank extensions and completely failing to realise it takes 24 hours to cure, I have been a bit behind!

Since there have been no objections, we'll move it back 1 week. Sunday, Aug. 7 I'll generate the list.

As much as I hate to do this I have to drop out. I'm super bummed because this will be the first pith I have missed since I joined the forum. Alas, the Briar Gods are telling me this pipe IS NOT meant to be.

Another drop out I'm afraid! I thought I'd have time, but real life conspired against me. Very sorry!

I am as finished as I can be.
Is there any way we will see the pipes that are done? Will they be posted somewhere?.

Here's my pipe for the 2016 PITH. Sorry for the quality of the pics. I didn't have time to set up my Pentax and strobes.
In keeping with this years theme of "anything goes that has a military mount", the spigot on the end of the stem is tapered and fits snugly into the receiving mortise in the side of the stummel. The bit is hand cut acrylic. I had some of these at the KC show in June so some of you may have seen them there. The person receiving the pipe can have their choice of this stem or a black one.

SO I did three.
The first one for practice, it was an undistinguished block that I think came from Mimmo

Unfortunately it has some internal issues, but is emminently smokable, I will keep it. An OG.
The second was a 70s style freehand that weighs about a pound(actually 96 grams if my powder scale is correct). I cut 2 stems because the first looked a little undersized. It also has some internal issues - the mortise and vent hole are misaligned by a degree or two, but is smokable. It will pass a cleaner with coaxing. It will also double as a bud vase or a paper weight.

The last is a little weird, I was getting desperate with the falling out of the two above pipes. It was originally destined to be a conventional Canadian/lumberman but I put the military mount on it. The first stem was the red/black cumberland, the second the ebonite. I decided the original tapered shape of the bit would make an uncomfortable bite area so midway I went for a bastard saddle A real saddle would look better IMO, but I don't have time to cut another stem.

Mr recipient will get his choice of either of the lower two, and both stems with his choice.
