I'm so frustrated right now!
When sanding down my tenons I am constantly ruining the face of the stem which means no smooth transition between shank and stem? What am I to do??? Is a tenon turner my only hope?
Maybe this belongs in the stem section?

Short answer: Yes.
You're going to need some sort of tool to maintain a crisp face on the stem. The Pimo tool is the least expensive, and probably the lowest common denominator for consistent work. (yes, the pimo tool can be consistent)
If you can afford it all, it should be one of the first things on your list to buy. Well, in my opinion anyway.
