Danish-style Egg..

Post by JMG »

Really didn't want to rusticate this pipe, but the situation warranted it. The stem has a whitetail deer antler accent ring. I still need to do a pre-carb on the bowl as there are some flaws that need to be covered, but other than that I'm calling it done on this one. I would really appreciate your critiques as this is my first attempt at this shape. Thanks.

Hey John, good looking pipe! I would have loved to see a smooth rim on it, but other than that, it's a great looking pipe.
The antler ring looks very nice aswell

You and me both, bud. Unfortunately, I had two ugly flaws smack on top of the rim.

Looking good!

Seeing this on my phone, but the only thing that bugs me is the line of the stem. On a pipe like this, I'd suggest taking the taper of the shank all the way to the button from all angles.

In profile it gets too thin too fast, leaving what looks like a flat area near the button. From top and bottom, the stem cuts in too quickly giving it a pinched feeling half way to the button.

I think your stem taper is fine. It's the angle of your shank face that's off.

It appears you are correct, sir. Fart. Thanks for working up that picture.

Wayne's right, but I still don't like the taper. :P

My photoshop voodoo skills aren't what Wayne's are, but I was thinking the same thing. There's too much removed from the bottom side of the shank.

Yup, my phone sucks. On my computer now. IAWW & J.

Also, your bowl is a bit wonky when viewed from above. It's not awful but there are a few spots that are out of round.

And I still don't like the taper. :P
