Re: Ball "Banderita"
There are a couple of things that could be improved in this pipe, but one detail would make it a better smoking tool as well as giving a more finished look- a chamfered rim.
Re: Ball "Banderita"
Matter of taste.

Not really a matter of taste, I think a poll among pipesmokers would show a big majority preferring a chamfered rim over a sharp edge not only for aesthetics, but mostly for functionality (easier loading and easier maintenance of the rim).
It's your pipes however, so do as you like.

Re: Ball "Banderita"
I agree with you, for what it's worth. A chamfered rim prevents the user from turning the rim to charcoal when lighting.W.Pastuch wrote:Not really a matter of taste, I think a poll among pipesmokers would show a big majority preferring a chamfered rim over a sharp edge not only for aesthetics, but mostly for functionality (easier loading and easier maintenance of the rim).

Re: Ball "Banderita"
Mr. Pastuch, you draw very good pipes, in style; I try to do, too, but mine.
I'm not the only one that ends like a socket; You see this other Joan Cantó.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice functionality for aesthetics.
Best regards.
Saludos.

Re: Ball "Banderita"
Do you see the chamfer on the rim? It's maybe only a millimeter, but it's there. The Canto pipe doesn't have as much of a chamfer, but then again, he's only been making pipes a little over a year.maxmil wrote:This is a Nanna Ivarsson pipe.

Bruce Weaver told me in Chicago last year to make sure I chamfered the rim. You won't find a pipe by a master pipe maker that doesn't have a chamfer on the rim.
Also, the functionality of a pipe should never be sacrificed for aesthetics. A pipe is first and foremost a smoking instrument, and a work of art second.

Maxmil, if you do not wish to hear other people's opinions about your pipes or pipes in general then why do you post?maxmil wrote:A very respectable opinion, but that does not match mine.

I ask simply because I am curious about your motivations.
Re: Ball "Banderita"
And who has told you that I was not interested in the opinions ?. Clear that interest me, another thing is that does not agree with them; Or can I not ?.
If you feel upset about it, so sorry.
Best regards.
Félix
¿Y quien le ha dicho a usted que no me interesan las opiniones?. Claro que me interesan, otra cosa diferente es que no esté de acuerdo con ellas; ¿o no puedo?.
Si se siente usted molesto por ello, lo lamento mucho.

Felix makes pipes only to make himself happy, not to please others. If he is happy, why do we care ?
I am glad he posts them here.

Re: Ball "Banderita"
Maxmil, not upset at all. When I read your posts, I see people offer you good advice which you reject. That's your choice and there's nothing wrong with that. I just find it confusing because I'm used to seeing people post in order to receive feedback and improve. There is nothing wrong with doing things the way you wish to. In no way did I intend to be combative or indicate that I feel you are unwelcome here. I apologize if I came across that way.
The pipe of mine that you posted is an earlier piece that I made before I learned the importance of using a chamfer on the rim: both functional and aesthetic. I now use a chamfer on the inner rim of every pipe I make because it is both a functionally better choice and aesthetically superior than using no chamfer, in my opinion. You are welcome to disagree.
