Well, here goes. My name is Tu Combs. JMG is a very good friend of mine, brother would be a more fitting word. He introduced me to the pipe world almost 5 years ago and I've been kind of itching to try my hand at making a pipe since he returned to the states. He had a reject block with a lot of flaws that he wasn't gonna use so I decided I would play with it since I would probably mess it up anyways. I decided to make a poker since they're one of my favorite shapes and although I have a few nice pokers, none of them sit. All drilling was done on a drill press. Delrin tenon in a pre-mold stem that I didn't spend much time on. The pictures aren't the greatest, but I tried to catch the important angles. Thanks for looking!
Here's the best shot I have of it.
And then a few of it getting there.
^^This isn't perfectly round, but is not near as bad as it looks in the picture.^^
That is a great way to start your pipe making! That poker looks good. You did a good job on that one.
Keep 'em coming, because i think you could get very good at this!
You've obviously been looking and listening here already. You've done a lot of things right. To my eye, the stem is a little too long for the pipe, and the stummel is a little too thin, but otherwise it's not a bad pipe.
Thanks for the compliments and critiques. I had a lot of fun making this pipe. As long as it continues to be therapeutic I'll keep at it. My favorite look on this pipe was right before I did the final stain so I went back and changed it up. I like this much better.
