Pipe #1 Feedback

Post by Tsumetai »

Hello everyone.

I read through a lot of the forum before ever deciding to buy a pipe kit just to make sure I had an idea of what I was getting myself into. I bought two pre-drilled straight pipe kits from PIMO and got to work as soon as they arrived. However since I am living in an apartment, I have a serve lack of space for tools and the such so I have done all my work with a single rasp/file and my hand as vice.

I have gotten it to a point I am relatively happy with, however I want to see if there are any major shaping changes that should be done BEFORE I begin sanding the pipe down smooth. I am sure the sanding will remove some of the minor inconsistencies, but I would like to know if the general shape is correct for a Billiard.

Thanks for taking the time to help out.

Work the briar and not your knuckles  , not looking too bad but be careful how much your taking off the bottom of the bowl at the shank junction, or maybe more needs to come off the back of the bowl near the top of the shank junction, or maybe both

My hands hurt for you as I well remember mine being the very same way after my first pipe or two. . Great first pipe...now go make another.

I thought I was supposed to shape my hand to the pipe not the pipe to my hand!
Thank you both for the comments!

Here is the work I have done since than. I have sanded it down all the way to 600 grit and have just put a based coat of black dye on the pipe. I sanded it down once again using 600 grit sandpaper before applying the light brown dye to the pipe.

While the pipe is definitely far from perfect, I am very proud of my first shot, especially with my lack of tools and workspace. I will post the finished pipe photos after I wax and polish the pipe.

Did some minor hand polishing of the pipe since I haven't had a chance to wire up my electric motor. Now that this is finished up time to start working on my second pipe.
