Gourd Calabash
If you were at the KC show you got to see this pipe. I found this goodneck gourd at the grocery store last fall and thought I would try to dry it to make a pipe. I cut it down considerably and it is still a HUGE pipe. Thanks to Steve for the extra large eb...it was sooo big the cup and shank cap are both from the same piece of wood.
I bought the box and fabric I covered it with at Hobby Lobby....man do I love that place
I didn't do anything to the gourd as far as finish goes. I thought about buffing it, but didn't want to take the risk of winging it across the shop.
The long stem is Ebonite
The short stem is Cumberland
The ring under the shank cap is sheet delrin
The cup diameter is 3.19"
The chamber is .75" x 1.66"

I don't remember the stand at the KC show.
I was pretty impressed with the outcome, and so were many of the show attendants. Great job there Scottie!

Really nice Scottie!
Re: Gourd Calabash
Very unique. I'll bet it smokes well too.
Re: Gourd Calabash
Scottie, personally I love the idea... But think it would look better if the briar was sandblasted or fissure free ... Just my personal observation
Your ingenuity amazes me... And that's what makes a difference in my world of pipe making

In think it's brilliant!
Re: Gourd Calabash
Cool Scottie! Waiting in anticipation to see what you're going to do with your own crop.
Re: Gourd Calabash

Re: Gourd Calabash
No wheeled bipod to go with the stand and box? That thing was HUGE!
UFOs must be real. There's no other explanation for cats.
Re: Gourd Calabash
Never seen anything like that before. Beautiful craftsmanship Scottie, it looks absolutely amazing.
Re: Gourd Calabash
Shoot, I like the box/case!
