I apparently haven't seen your work in a while... Holy shiitake mushroom batman!!! That's amazing. I mean, your work has always been incredible. But your fit and finish continue to get better and better.

...but worth pointing out, the photos are pretty frikkin' awesome too. I'd be interested in hearing about your photo setup.
Thank you!

For my photos, I use a three point lighting setup. It's three bathroom vanity light fixtures set up on a wooden frame for 360 degrees of light. Each fixture holds two circular fluorescent lights, with a plastic diffuser shield.

This throws a very diffuse light, so it's not that great for showing form with the help of shadows. But it's great at providing very even light and accurate colours. The diffuser really helps to reduce glare as well, on my pipes that have a more glossy finish.

I use an adjustable micrometer stand, with a machinists clamp on the end of it, this allows me to hold the pipe perfectly still, and position it how I want in front of a wooden backdrop. The photos that show the entire pipe, I am holding it with needle file wrapped in electrical tape inserted into the airway, and held by the stand. Then I photoshop the bit of needle file sticking out.

I'm using a Canon EFS 60mm macro at f2.8.

I have experimented with using both fluorescent and incandescent lighting at the same time, but the combination of light temperatures creates a purple hue that is impossible to correct. In the end, it's much better to use fluorescents, and use the correct white balance settings to get rid of the cold fluorescent look.
Take a look at my pipe website!

I had a friend from work, who works 1000+ miles away, send me pics of this the other day because he knows I make my own. Like "you should try this" not my hands brother not my hands. Looks great.
