I'm very happy with this bent billiard I finished. There are only a few minor things I might change on the next one. Let me know what you think. And I apologize for my poor photography :/
Looks like a great pipe! i will add a few things that I noticed which have no bearing on the quality of the pipe at all. They are just things that jumped out at me. The stem seems very long which affects the flow of the shape, but not in a bad way. The bowl seems slightly small for the stem diameter and stem length. Lastly the top of the shank seems to widen quickly at the shank/bowl junction. Overall a very nice pipe.
Thanks Joe, and I agree that I could have trimmed some fat at the bowl shank junction. I always get a little nervous about hitting the airway in that area on more aggressively bent pipes. I believe that is what causes the bowl to seem a bit small. The stem was intentionally made to be longer than most because I was going for more of a dunhill LC feel.
This pipe is right up my alley. If I saw this on a table I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. Without seeing it up close, the only real thing I can comment on is that I'd like the tobacco chamber to be sanded out a bit more. Aim for a sharp line between bare briar and rim.
Yeah it's good - we're down to nit-picky stuff here. Some of the Dunhills, a 120 for example, did have a relatively long stem. I find this one a bit too long, especially in conjunction with the bowl height. It's a good billiard shape, but not OVERLY tall, and you put this very long stem on it and suddenly it makes the bowl look a little pottish.
But the basic ideas in this pipe translate into any number of other bent billiard variants.
Nice pipe. The only critique I have is that the stem is too long and is a smidge over-bent. Of course that's a la Dunhill so there are plenty who like it that way.
