I had a guy email me last week and ask if I would make an eskimo. I've never made one before and thought I'd give it a shot. I still have some shaping to do. I wanted to post some in progress pictures to see what you boys think.

It looks good. There's something funny about the top line of the shank in the profile. It looks too straight. On Eltang's Eskimo, he rounds the top of the shank down a bit to make the shank thinner, but that may make the bowl look too tall. You nailed the block placement, though.

I'm no expert on what an Eskimo should or shouldn't be, but to mine eyballs it's the mix of straight lines and curves that makes the shape work.
UFOs must be real. There's no other explanation for cats.
I've made a few as commissions, but from handling them, I think they are not real comfortable to smoke. They are way heavy on the front end, and they have that short little stem. They are very cool looking though.
I agree with Rad: it really looks cute, but I don't think it will turn into a regular smoker.
I'm no specialist on the shape (I've only done one so far), but the profile needs to be much thinner according to me, with the bowl also a lot more flattened. The top and bottom of the shank curves, with the edge more or less centered when seen from the side.
So I slept on it and think I might round the top of the shank a bit. This is what I'm thinking...rounding from the pencil mark (high spot) on top of the shank down to the mark on the side of the shank. It will lose some weight this way and improve the profile. Thoughts?

When I saw your pic I thought you were removing material below that line to make a more narrow shank underneath. I honestly like that better.
To me the best lines on the pipe are on top and the bottom looks clunky. Why would you change the sexy lines on top to match the bland ones underneath?
This what I ended up with. Not going to mess with it any more. Gonna clean up the lines and finish it. Sticking with the basic shape of this design how could I improve the next one?
