Just wanted some thoughts on what everyone uses to do the main shaping of the pipes. The only power tools I have in my possession are a jig saw dermal tool an basic cordless power drill. I used files an rasps on my first couple pipes made. Thoughts whay you all thought?

Re: Lack of power tools
To do all shaping and sanding, I use a "french-ish" wheel.
Others use a belt sander/grinder. Belt grinder on left, disc, then 1" belt sander behind the disc setup.
Or you can use rasps, files, etc. A lot of shaping can also be done on a lathe, but a shaping disc is indispensible.

You can make major cuts with any wood blade saw then use files and dremel to shape. Then sandpaper for final shaping and finishing.

Re: Lack of power tools
the cheapest way to go is a coping saw and the sanding pads Kurt mentioned
Re: Lack of power tools
The cheapest off the shelf power tool I can think of for shaping is that 1x30" belt sander. You can find them for about $30. They won't do everything that a sanding disk on a motor will do, but they will help you remove material much quicker than doing it all by hand. The price alone is it its best point.
Ideal is to find a motor that works and buy the arbor and wheel that Kurt Huhn sells. There is a big learning curve with that, but it is the best tool for the job at hand.
