Yak, my apologies for using the wrong elicit/illicit. I realized my mistake after posting but did not correct it because I forgot that spelling and grammar mistakes were symptomatic of criminal behavior and the decline of western civilization, or some such horribleness. Here I was, thinking an error in a brief post on a pipe making forum might get a pass from snarky criticism because it's about pipe making, not grammar and spelling. That's why I love this forum...there's always something to learn.

Nope, that piece went to Greg Gelvin--who's not Chinese--and he paid $1400 for it, not $4500, and that was in Kansas City, not Chicago--where a similar pipe did sell to one of my Chinese collectors, but not for the price you quoted. So ultimately, no, you didn't.

Ah. A the old pronoun switcheroo. Since there was a physical object being discussed---a pipe--I assumed it was the "it." You, apparently, read "it" as referring to witnessing a monetary transaction.

It never occurred to me that someone might interpret what I wrote to mean, "I saw Todd type a credit card number into a pad." (or however you do it)

As for KC vs. Chicago, I never mentioned where I saw the pipe.

Given all that, it looks like ultimately ultimately, yes, I did.

Keepin' it real often has that effect, I've discovered.

The thing is, when you do it isn't you they're pissed about. Usually they're just mad about some fact or other that's inconvenient to them, and they take out their anger on those who don't join them in denying or ignoring the fact.

That's just referring to the Big Picture, though. In this particular case, as I said, Todd and I have talked at some length face-to-face several times, and we get along fine. (Hell... do you think he'd let some stranger take that pic?) We're just engaging in a bit of "linguistic precision smack-talk."
