Harbor Freight Dust Collector Start Capacitor

Post by Gershom »

I need help. I have looked all over the interwebs and I cannot seem to find out what type of start capacitor I need for my HF DC.
Here's the only label on the thing.

I'm thinking around 450-500 MFD? Anyone with more experience out there to help me not make a mistake? Thanks!

If I remember correctly the starting capacitor is on top of the motor? If that's correct maybe there is either a size listed on the capacitor or motor housing. Or perhaps you can size one up based on the comparative size of the motor. Guess that's not a lot of help.

Bought it for cheap because the capacitor was gone... so, can't compare them... :banghead:

If it blew, the contacts inside the motor may be fried too. If you take it to an electrical repair place they'll open 'er up, fix all that shit, probably put in new bearings, and it'll be about 200 bucks.

I assume it's a 1/2 hp motor. Probably cheaper to buy a used motor.

I found out that it is a 400 Micro-Farad capacitor, incase anyone wanted to know. I looked at another Dust Collector with same specs. Thanks? :)
