Well, here we go. I'm shooting for 20 by the last week of April. We'll see how close to that I get. Sorry about the pictures...I'm still messing around with my light box.
Holy shiite girl! Way to go!
Maybe just a little more height on the bowl but I'd buy it the way it is.
Having that bun in the oven has given you inspiration.
Chas.
Very nice work !
Critique you say ?
The shank and stem are stunning, it makes this pipe. Proportion here looks marvelous, the silver is just right, all class baby. Amazing work, that.
Problem is, it don't match that bowl. If the bowl had 1/8th inch more all the way around, or if the whole thing was 1/4" or so taller, this one is out of the ballpark.
The front pic also looks unbalanced. Could be the angle of the shot but I suspect the two cheeks of the bowl are different thickness and shaped on two totally different curves.
This pipe sucks. Everything about it just blows chunks. Too bad the grain on the briar is so ugly...

Thus o’er my pipe, in contemplation
Of such things, I can constantly
Indulge in fruitful meditation
And so, puffing contentedly,
On land, on sea, at home, abroad,
I smoke my pipe and worship God.
Red- I would have loved to make it a little taller. This was a really little block (height wise) I have been sitting on for a while. I really squeezed all the height out of it I could. I have another I'm working on now that is shorter than this one (same reason).
Alden- You are right about the cheeks. I have noticed that I tend to leave the left side (from above) a little heavier just before the shank when I'm at the wheel. Something I have working on since I shaped this one. Initially it was a bit fatter all the way around. I had just gotten a new shaping wheel and got a little carried away taking material off the bottom front of the bowl. By the time I got it all straightened out I was a little thinner in the walls than I wanted to be.....lesson learned for sure.
I paid particular attention to my proportions on this one. Now I am going to focus more on button work and slowing down while I'm working at the wheel. I have another one ready for final sanding and finishing up the stem.
Hang on boys....it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day. www.ladybriar.com

Yep. I recognize the problem because I eF up the same thing.

I tend to leave the right cheek a little heavier. It's something that's very apperant in my previous work.
She should be - it was a helluva big joint I rolled her, but I agree, the airway intersection could be cleaned up by hand or the chamber possibly cut just a hair deeper.
Yeah, you can always cut that last bit by hand with the spade bit, just twist it and push. Turns out twist n' push is applicable in most walks of life including pipes!
